What we can do is give you a few tips in order help you make decisions about your banner design.

It’s always a good idea to incorporate your Logo into your banner design.  It is not essential, but if you have a Logo on your website, incorporating it into your banner design helps visitors to recognise immediately, that having clicked your banner ad, they have indeed arrived at the correct website.  It is instant recognition.  Also remember that a banner ad is an image.  Images on the web can be taken and used by others.  You have paid for your banner design, if you incorporate your Logo or your URL into your banner design, your banner ad is not any use at all to anyone who might want to take it.  It’s a good way to avoid image theft.

When deciding on a static banner design, it is important to remember that a static banner ad provides just one frame, use that frame well.  The banner size you choose for your banner design, will limit the amount of text you can include.  For example a static half banner design (234 x 60 pixels) will allow you less space than a static full banner design (468 x 60 pixels).  If you wish to include a large amount of text, combined with your logo/images/artwork, consider opting for a larger banner size. Animated banner ads, usually designed using two of three frames allow you more space for your logo/images/artwork and your text. So think about what you want to display and say, then think about which size banner animated or static, will allow you to do this to the best effect.

Think about colours. Do you want your banner design to be strong, bold and bright, or would you prefer your banner ad to be slightly more subtle and sophisticated?  Do you want your banner ads to match/compliment your Logo/images/existing artwork? Will you want the colours on your website to be incorporated into your banner design in order to present continuity?

However if your banner ad is placed on a website selling shoes, and you are selling shoe care products, a common interest exists.  You are then more likely to get a click through, and a conversion.  Placing your banner ads on websites with a common interest, is a good way to reach targeted traffic.  Targeted traffic is click throughs from visitors who are particularly looking for your products and services.  If you are selling tropical fish, look to advertise on websites about fishing, websites which produce literature on tropical fish, tropical fish supplies, fish tanks etc.  Aiming for targeted traffic is the best way to achieve a higher ROI from your banner design.

You can use FREE Banner Exchange Programmes to have your banner ads placed on websites.

You can use Banner Server Programmes.  Banner ads are generally sold in blocks of 1,000 page impressions. This means you will pay a set price for your banner ad to display 1,000 times.  The price you pay for your banner ad impressions varies and it’s well worth you taking a little time to shop around for the best prices and services.

You can pay for Clicks.  Some Banner Server Programmes offer a pay for clicks service. You pay for a fixed amount of clicks.  The campaign runs until the total number of clicks you have purchased is reached.

You would be wrong to judge your banner ad design performance or effectiveness on click throughs alone.  Banner ads create awareness.  A good banner ad design will make people aware of your products and services. Good banner ads do get noticed, and when visitors encounter them, they become aware of your business, and your services, every time someone views your banner ad an introduction is made.  A mental association is made.
